We dedicate this week at Atomaha.com to talk about emotions and how to master them. Emotion is a big part of our life. In fact, all our lives are involved around our emotions.
How many different types of emotion do you experience on a daily basis? Are you experiencing positive emotions or negative emotions? Most people believe that emotions just happen to them and they cannot do anything about it. If they experience negative emotions like sadness, loneliness orchestration, what they usually do is to wait until the feelings completely pass. Or worse, they use stimulants such as alcohol or drugs, to change the way they feel. Let me make this clear, you and I can influence and alter our emotions without the need of using these unhealthy methods.
We can choose the productive and healthy ways to change our emotions. For example, when you feel bored or lonely, instead of sitting in front of the TV, why not try to go out and take a walk in the park and get some fresh air? A breath of fresh air can enhance your mood. When you feel angry, instead of putting it on people around you, why not use that energy to have a great workout at the gym? Or you can also think about the people in your life that you are grateful, the people that helped you in the past and the people that give you unconditional love.

Are you truly happy with yourself? Do you beat yourself up for the thing that you couldn’t do? Have you found yourself in front of the mirror feeling hateful or angry at what you see? In order to achieve optimum emotional balance, you need to learn how to be happy with yourself. After all, what is the point of self improvement if you cannot be happy with yourself? Sometimes when bad things happen we allow ourselves upset. But the truth is that our environment cannot dictate our happiness. You can leave your life with happiness and choose the emotions you want to feel. Happiness is possible.
Number 1: Forgive yourself
You and I both have things that we did in the past which we are not so proud of. This is normal. A human being we make mistakes. The point is to learn as much as we can from our mistakes and move forward as quick as possible. We are not our own mistakes. The reason why you see negative things about yourself is because there are also many positive things about yourself. Start forgiving yourself because you are no longer what mistake you made in the past. From today you are a different person.
Number 2: Stop trying to be perfect
Are you a perfectionist? I used to be like that and I wanted everything to be perfect. Then I realized this drove me crazy and I no longer felt happy. The lesson is that instead of looking for perfection, try to look for progress. Successful people always look for progress and improvement in all areas of their lives.
Number 3: Stop comparing yourself with others
When I grow up I always try to be better than people around me. When I was in school, I always try to be the top student and get the highest scores. There is nothing wrong with being the top. However, I found myself comparing with all those around me and the people who were better than me. I wasn’t happy. Now I know better. Instead of comparing myself with others, I compare myself with who I can become. I compare myself today with the best version I can be. I compare myself with who I was yesterday. And I think you should do the same too.
